Destination Information

Welcome to Lanzarote!

This island is considered the most unusual, idiosyncratic and bizarre of the Canary archipelago. It is also called "the mystical island", a "piece of moon with the smile of the sun" or the "island of sleeping volcanoes". Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary archipelago and the fourth largest with 850 km². It is located about 125 km from the African coast and has about 140,000 inhabitants. If you are here on the island for the first time, you will be surprised how varied the island is. At first everything seems barren and desert-like, but at second glance this impression changes. The colours of the volcanic cones - 89 are scattered across the island - change from ochre to yellow, violet, brown and deep black and shimmer in velvety red tones in the evening. Volcanism becomes tangible here as in only a few places on earth. A large part of the island was only covered by the lava masses in the 18th century and today resembles a fantastic lunar landscape.
