The west of the island

The rugged southwest coast from Arguineguin to Puerto de Mogán is interrupted by sandy bathing bays. Many small, hidden sandy beaches are an insider's tip as you continue along the coast north to Agaete. With its low humidity, the entire west coast is also considered the sunniest region on the island. Coming from the south, numerous new holiday settlements have sprung up via Puerto Rico, Amadores and Taurito to Puerto de Mogán. Puerto Rico is the largest holiday centre with many hotel complexes built into the hillside. Puerto de Mogán is an architectural gem with a small marina that looks like a small Venice. Mogán is the start of a 60 km long road along the coast with many hairpin bends through a sparsely populated landscape up to Agaete. The colourful rocks of Los Azulejos are worth seeing on this stretch. The most western town on the island, nestled in the valley of the tomatoes, is the lovely little fishing village of La Aldea de San Nicolás.
