Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the island of Tenerife and, along with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, one of the two capitals of the Canary Islands. Located in the northeast, the city has 208,688 inhabitants (as of 2022) and, together with La Laguna, forms the second largest population density (423,000 inhabitants). The area of the urban area is about 150 km². The area of Santa Cruz stretches from the sparsely populated Anaga Mountains in the east of the island to the sloping terrain of the Acentejo on the coast. The highest elevation of the city is about 750 metres above sea level. In contrast, there are districts in the centre of the city, such as the Plaza de España, which are only four metres above sea level. The city is largely characterised by its port, which is one of the largest Spanish seaports on the Atlantic.
