El Medano

The only naturally light sandy beaches on the island are in and around El Medano. El Medano is a former fishing village and is probably not overcrowded because of the very limited accommodation possibilities. This place has made a name for itself by hosting international windsurfing competitions. Thanks to the wind conditions in the bay between the village and the formerly volcanic "Montaña Roja", El Medano is one of the top ten windsurfing spots in the world. On the other side of the "red mountain" you will find the longest natural beach on the island, Playa de la Tejita, which is mainly visited by locals and is also used in part as a nudist beach.
